Botox
It takes 3-5 days to notice the effects of Botox®
injections, and the effects last 4-6 months. Botox®
injections are used to smooth furrowed wrinkles, on
the upper third of the face such as forehead lines,
furrows between the eyebrows and lines around the eyes
("crow's feet").
Botox is a natural purified protein. Studies show that
it works locally, only where it is injected, and patients
usually do not develop tolerance to it. It has even
been known to last longer with subsequent injections.
The object of these Botox injections is not to freeze
normal facial expressions, but to soften unwanted lines.
This should be done in an artistic way, allowing for
softening of wrinkles without an unnatural look.
A topical numbing cream is applied onto the skin; a
fine needle is used to inject small amounts of Botox
under the skin in the areas where there are wrinkles
caused by muscles of expression, crow's feet, frown
furrows and forehead lines. Maintenance is generally three times a year.
